Second São Paulo economic activity research (PAEP)


The purpose of this project is to accomplish for the second time the São Paulo state Economic Activity Survey PAEP - with methodology developed by the SEADE Foundation which was also previously used between 1997 and 1998 and has covered about 28,000 enterprises of the State of São Paulo. FAPESP has provided financial support to that survey. PAEP is already reconized as an important information source regarding mensuration of the state economic activity. It is considered the best and most accurate base of indicators of the several aspects of the productive process restructutring of our state. The research results can be singled out by administrative region. The SEADE Foundation is then fulfilling several of its institutional and statutory goals such as: Collecting, organizing, analyzing and divulging technical information and statistical data; Identifying through data collection and analysis the economic and social development status of the state; Effecting situation and structural analysis, through studies and researches carried out, and aiming at, obtaining indicators ro support the State government action; Define methodologies and ways to achieve (..) technical information and statistical data obtention, selection and processing activities. This new survey, besides updating existing information, shal enable the users of economic statistics to obtain a historical perspective. In addition to the sectors already researched in the previous survey - industry, commerce, computer science and bank services the share of the service sector shall be increased with the inclusion of the financial services sector, as well as of transportation, education, health, and the other sectors that support enterprises. It is foreseen that comparisons with the previous research results shall be possible, as well as with other national and international survey results. However, some improvements that were deemed as necessary during the review and analysis of the previous survey results and shall be adopted by the methodology.
