Abstract

The Neoproterozoic evolution of the Paranapanema and São Francisco Blocks is part of the convergence history of the Farusian-Goiás Ocean. The efforts for the paleogeographic reconstruction of this scenario involve the partial arrangement of the continental margin from eastern Rodinia and western Gondwana. This scientific project seeks to establish the constitution and the boundaries of the Paranapanema Block within the Southern Brasília orogen, and to identify the set of geological units that have Paranapanema-like or São Francisco-like chemical and isotopic affinities. The research of that paleogeography is focused on obtaining new data on the source areas of the passive and active margins deposits, to be compared with the knowledge of the geological and tectonic margins of Rodinia and Gondwana. The provenance study by geochronology and isotopic and elemental geochemistry, within the orogenic context, will be the main tool for this tectonic analysis. (AU)
