Synthesis and characterization of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes and their applications in process of adsorption and catalysis

Abstract

The first series of nanomaterials will be obtained from a functionalization of an oligomer polyhedral silsesquioxane ( POSS ) precursor, called octa-(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane (POSS-PrCl), with six different organic molecules generating six different nanomaterials. This first set of materials will be named "POSS-Adsorbent(s)". The "POSS -Adsorbents" will be tested as adsorbents in the adsorption of some ions of heavy metals such as V(III), Fe(III) , Cr(III), Cu(II) and Pb(II), and/or others, from aqueous and non-aqueous solutions and adsorption and removal of some antibiotics such as cephalexin, ciprofloxacin, ampicillin, amoxicillin and / or others, in an aqueous medium. Additionally, one or more of nanomaterials "POSS - Adsorbents" will be selected and used in the determination, pre - concentration and separation of metal ions in aqueous and ethanol, synthetic and real samples (Rio Parana/SP and fuel ethanol), including retention and elutions of individual metals and mixtures of ions, using the method of column chromatography.The second set of nanomaterials involve the preparation of catalysts by reaction of the organometallic complex [Mo (h3-C3H5) (CO) 2 Br (NCME)2] and [W(h3-C3H5) (CO)2 Br (NCME)2] (where (h3-C3H5 = allyl and NCME = acetonitrile) with the nanomaterials prepared in the first series, called "POSS- Adsorbents". This second set of materials will be called "POSS-Catalyst(s)". The "POSS - catalysts" will be applied in the oxidation of some olefins such as cyclooctene, styrene, geraniol, limonene and/or others. The catalytic properties of the supported catalysts could be compared with those of the unsupported species. (AU)
