Patients with atrial fibrillation in the post-operative period (FAPO) present higher mortality and higher in-hospital stay than those who does not. The possibility to identify patients in risk of developing FAPO generates the potential benefit in its prevention through the use of anti-arrhythmic agents. Micro RNAs are small fragments of RNA recently associated to the development of some diseases including those related to the circulatory system. Thus, the authors propose this study in order to identify the micro RNAs associated to the development of FAPO. In the first phase (screening), two groups with five patients with and without FAPO will be compared regarding to the presence or ausence of micro RNAs existence by mapping all the possible micro RNAs. In the second phase, two groups with fifty patients each will be submitted to the comparison of the micro RNAs found in the first phase. To identify the micro RNAs will be used peripheral venous blood samples and atrial tissue obtained in the intra operative period. Data will be submitted to statistical analysis. (AU)
