Abstract
In this research project, it is proposed the development of a simulation platform of distribution management system (DMS) for Smart Grids scenario. The DMS architecture and communication system components must be designed in concordance with Smart Grid concepts. The best system architecture, database format and market management system (MMS) interactivity will be defined during the development of this power management platform. Moreover, the design of meter data management system (MDMS) must determinate the distribution network physical variables that will be measured and included in the DMS database in order to enable the Smart Grid operations. These variables will be obtained by a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that must ensure the characteristic plug and play to the simulation platform. Simultaneously, we also aim to verify the economic feasibility for implementation of a DMS in open source code that ensures the system standardization and is a popular feature since the 80s. The simulation platform should be tested on a real distribution system with some adaptations to Smart Grid environment. (AU)
