Migrant Brazil: population flows, public policy and state structures (1980-2012)

Abstract

The project proposes the creation of search actions in an attempt to map the Brazilian public policies targeted directly Brazilian international migration flows between 1980 and the present. It aims to map and discuss the existence (or not) of a Brazilian Immigration Policy in the period, and how the Brazilian government action adapted to the profound changes in international migration flows in Brazilian long period. Already pointing to the anachronism of Brazilian legislation back to the resident alien in our territory, once it is established in the historical moment (the end of the Brazilian military regime) quite different from the current Brazilian reality. Besides pointing out what's inside the Brazilian state, in organs such as the Ministry of Justice and CNIg apparently intentions of updating the Brazilian legislation and the urgent need for Brazil to build a consistent Migration Policy to encompass the reality of migration flows that are a reality in our territory (or outside it, in the case of Brazilians who go abroad), thus enabling Brazil to really take on their role within the global migration flows.
