Development of an electroanalytical methodology for selective doping of electrodeposited selenium semiconducting films based in the underpotential deposition

Abstract

In this project is proposed to synthesize and characterize quantum dots (quantum dots, QDs) of the semiconductor cadmium telluride (CdTe), with different diameters, capped with tri-n-octilfosfina (TOP) and tri-n-octilfosfina oxide (TOPO). The diameters of the nanostructures will be controlled by temperature of the reaction medium and assessed by absorption measurement in the UV-vis spectrum. Moreover, vertically aligned ZnO nanotubes will be electrodeposited on stainless steel, on a Pt electrode used in the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance and on ITO plates from an electrolytic bath containing 5 mM ZnCl2 and 0.1 M KCl and characterized by AFM and SEM-FEG microscopy and by X-ray diffraction measurements. For the immobilization of such QDs on the ZnO nanotubes, the TOP/TOPO coatings of the former will be replaced with an alkanethiol (mercapto propionic acid - PMA) one. After that, the ZnO structures will be immersed in the QD solution and the adsorption will be monitored by the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance. The electrical, optical and electrochemical properties of this modified electrode will be assessed through voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and UV-vis absorption measurements.
