Micro/nano/ultrananocrystalline diamond films doped with boron applied in the phenol electrooxidation and in the heavy metal remotion/detection

Abstract

This project presents a systematic study of the electrochemical application of boron doped diamond as (BDD) electrodes with grain size in micro, nano and ultranano scale grown on silicon and/or Titanium substrates. The films will be obtained by the technique of chemical deposition in the gas phase ("Chemical Vapor Deposition" - CVD) and has already been developed with success in the Laboratory of Electrochemical and Carbonaceous Materials (LABEMAC) LAS / INPE. This study is associated with the process of obtaining, characterization applications of diamond films micro / nano / ultrananocrystalline with different doping levels of boron in two major lines of application: oxidation of organic materials and heavy metal detection. The morphological, structural and electrochemical fundamental studies will be done as well as the BDD applications on wastewater treatment that is an area of great interest to the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). This interest is linked to the fact that these species present enormous potential as water pollutant and their quantity above the recommended limit can cause serious risks to the environment and human health. The part of organic focuses on phenolic compounds, while the detection / removal of heavy metals is centered on lead and cadmium associated with the development of analytical techniques of detection. The results are compared with other analytical techniques used for the same purpose. The aim is thus to validate some processes using doped diamond electrodes micro / nano / ultrananocrystalline, leading to this process nationalization. Considering the infrastructure equipment available in our laboratory that will be described in the course of this project, the resources requested are to meet the demand in the acquisition of permanent equipment and consumption that meet the techniques associated with the development of the Project. Considering the high demand for equipment in the team now, the objective is primarily funds for the purchase of a current module used in the Metrohm Potenciostate, an high power ultrasound equipamente and polishing, as well as resources for consumables that allow the development the proposed work.
