Abstract

Disturbances in bone metabolism can result in a decrease in bone density leading to osteoporosis. In this way, the use of bisphosphonates (BF), and phytotherapic alternatives as the ingestion of green tea in order to inhibit osteoclastic activity and recover bone mass are indicated. Due to the popularity of green tea known by its anti-oxidant effects, added to the high number of individuals who use BFs, the aim of the present study is to analyze the effect of green tea at 1% on socket healing of animals treated with BFs. A total of 60 male Wistar rats will be distributed into three groups according to the treatment: Group C - Control, animals treated with endovenous (EV) 0.9% saline solution, Group CV - treated with green tea at 1% in drinking water, Group ZL - treated with EV zoledronic acid, Group ZL+CV - treated with EV zoledronic acid and green tea at 1% in drinking water. A dose of 0.035 mg/Kg of the BF will be administered every two weeks. After four weeks from the beginning of the BF administration, the animals will be submitted to right upper molars extractions, when 1% green tea will be offered to the animals of CV and ZL+CV groups. After 7, 14, and 28 days from teeth extractions, the animals will be euthanized with anesthetics overdose for the retrieval of the specimens to be prepared and analyzed considering morphological microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
