Abstract

This project aims at characterizing alternatives adsorbents and bio-adsorbents, evaluating its use for recovery of silver in aqueous solution. Assays for silver recovery will be accomplished in finite bath (static system) and fixed bed (dynamic system), preceded by preliminary tests of metal affinity. The characterization methods used will be X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermal Analysis (TG and DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive Chemical Analysis by X-ray (EDX) , Measurements of adsorption / desorption of N2 (determination of specific surface area, BET method, average diameter and specific volume of pores and adsorption isotherms), He picnometry and mercury porosimetry. The material characterization will provide information on the adsorptive properties required for the recovery process of silver in bath finite and fixed bed. The results will not only evaluate the adsorbents, but may also assist in defining procedures for the study of other precious or semi-precious metals. (AU)
