Brazil, the Americas and the world: public opinion and foreign policy in 2013


The objective of this research project is to describe and analyze public perception of Brazil in relation to our foreign policy and international politics. It is part of an international academic partnership, which includes research teams from several Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru. The overall coordination of the project (Las Americas y el Mundo) is in charge of the Centro de Investigación y Teaching Economics (CIDE) in Mexico. The international project seeks to understand the perceptions and attitudes of the public about international issues that have gained greater importance in this century and capture the reaction of society to the changing international and domestic impacts. The study covers a wide range of topics (cultural, economic, social, political, security), levels (bilateral, regional and global) related to international relations and foreign policy. Is Testing for panel type, with two surveys: a survey leaders linked to international relations, with a convenience sample of 200 cases, and a survey with the public, with a probabilistic sample of 1500 cases, with national distribution stratified, repeated every four years . In parallel, will set up a database in electronic form, with signed articles and editorials on foreign policy, published in O Estado de São Paulo, Folha de São Paulo and Globo. Results are presented in two forms: a) an analysis of the attitudes and perceptions of the foreign policy community and the public in Brazil, with respect to the number of subjects included in the questionnaires, b) a comparative analysis of perceptions of foreign policy community when appropriate, and the public about the country's place in the international arena and on the foreign policy agenda in the seven countries studied.
