Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the oceanic productivity in the slope of Campos Basin, southeastern Brazilian continental margin, applying micropaleontological techniques (benthic foraminifera analysis) and analysis of stable isotopes ´13C and ´15N in calcareous shells of foraminifera. The study material consists of modern sediment samples that were collected along transects, from Cabo Frio to the northern region of the basin, from 400 m to 3000 m depth approximately. Sampling was conducted in summer 2009.The project will also include sedimentological, organic matter composition and elemental ratios in the sediments, which will allow the evaluation of the sedimentary processes, quantity and quality of organic matter, and redox potential in the Campos Basin slope.
