Abstract

Lung cancer is the neoplasia most frequently diagnosed worldwide. Surgical treatment is the best approach to manage early stage disease; nevertheless, the related morbi-mortality is high. Thus, a centralized database is very important to allow adequate healthcare management and stimulate outcomes improvement. The purpose of this study is to analyze the results of the implementation of the Paulista Registry of Lung Cancer Surgical Treatment. The main outcome is data quality, which will be evaluated for each individual institution and for the pool of participants. This is a longitudinal study in which participant institutions will fill out on-line forms of a database developed by the University of Sao Paulo Telemedicine discipline based on the Cancer Hospital Registry. This database will accrue not only demographic information of patients who undergo surgical treatment for lung cancer, but also data regarding clinical stage, postoperative course, recurrence, morbidity and mortality. An audit will be performed bi-annually to check the quality of data, a report will be written and sent to the leaders of each participant institution. Partcipanfs perception will also be evaluated.
