Identification of the health needs and performance of intervention related to the use and abuse of alcohol in public service users of the Family Health Program of Ribeirão Preto - SP

Abstract

The focus is on gathering information about mental problems and the use of alcohol and other psychoactive drugs among a sample population of the area covered by USP - West Zone, to plan interventions and evaluate these results. The project has the following objectives: to identify the occurrence of mental health problems and drug abuse and dependence among the families enrolled with the FHS teams linked to USP - West Zone; to screen for risk factors of psychoactive drug abuse and dependence; to implement intervention proposals for families with members who report having mental health problems and for families with members that use psychoactive drugs; to implement the intervention proposal for users of licit and illidt psychoactive drugs; to train professionals of the Family Health Center (FHC) where the interventions will be performed; to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions in order to extend the proposal to other Health Centers of the region. This is a community, open, non-controlled study for the evaluation of intervention outcomes, conducted over 24 months. Diagnosis, to identify the families registered who have mental health or alcohol and other psychoactive drug problems; visits to the families to identify and screen for problems and sources of support, using the instruments ASSIST, Self- Report Questionnaire, Social Support Questionnaire, COOP function charts; Intervention: application of brief intervention in patients with moderate and high scores in the ASSIST and course of Problem-Solving Therapy with the family members; Evaluation: After six months the screening instruments will be reapplied with the families individual interviews will be done. The data will be processed using SPSS and the information obtained through interviews, will be approached through content analysis. Part of this project has already been approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the EERP/USP, protocol n° 426/2010. (AU)
