Advanced electron microscopy techniques applied to amorphous, metastable and nanostructured metallic alloys

Abstract

Professor Dr. Michael J. Kaufman is the head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Colorado School of Mines, CSM, located in Golden - USA, Fellow of the American Society for Metals, ASM, has large research experience in topics involving the relation structure - property - processing of metals, composites and intermetallics, physical metallurgy and phase transformation, conventional and rapid solidification, characterization by X ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The activities during his visit of 09 months will be associated with two research groups, one at DEMa/UFSCar and another at SMM / EESC-USP both groups involved with research and teaching activities in the theme of "amorphous, metastable and nanostructured metallic alloys". The research activities of Prof. Kaufman will benefit directly 07 research projects financed by FAPESP and CNPq all of them associated with the development and properties of amorphous, metastable and nanostructured metallic alloys. Specifically, in addition to the main research activity in advanced electron microscopy the proposed activities include seminars, technical meetings and lectures in the Graduate Program in Material Science and Engineering of UFSCar.
