Abstract

The benefits of Roundup Ready technology are expressive, and the adoption of this technology by Brazilian farmers is a fact, supporting the rapid growth of GR soybean areas. But results of recent studies indicate that glyphosate sprayed on GR soybean, in some situations, can influence the nutrient balance, generate phytotoxic effects, affect photosynthesis, rhizosphere, biomass accumulation, the synthesis of amino acids and secondary compounds. But many doubts remain and they need to be elucidated in the scientific and technical areas, involving the question of genetically modified soybean under glyphosate application. Because of this fact it is necessary to search for information to diagnose the real consequences of glyphosate use in Brazil and in the World. In Brazil, for example, in recent years, some farmers are using high doses of glyphosate due to problems with resistant weeds, and no one knows for sure what consequences this act can cause on the development of GR soybean and at the seeds and grains produced.
