Abstract

In the acute period after cerebral ischemia, it is verified a reduction of the excitability and reduction of the cortical representation of the areas of the paretic muscles. This is associated with the reduction of the motor function and with the damage of neuronais structures. However, the retrain can prevent subsequent injuries in the adjacent cortical areas. The intensity, as well as, the interval of time between the injury and the beginning of the motor rehabilitation, they influence in the recovery of the neural function. The prolonged lack of active movement can lead to the subsequent loss of the function in regions not injured of encephalon. However, the precocious beginning of vigorous rehabilitation of the motor function can be contra productive. It was demonstrated that the forced use of a member, initiating immediately after the experimental cortical injury in rats, resulted in accented increase of the area of neural injury, behavior deficiencies, absence of dendritic growth and sprouting. On the other hand, positive effects are associates to the chronic periods of training of the recovery. Materials and methods- Surgery: They will be used rodents of the Meriones unguiculatus species (Mongolian Gerbil), weighing between 50 and 70g. Each animal will be anaesthetized and submitted to the surgery for the production of the unilateral cerebral ischemia, through the occlusion of the carotid artery external left... (AU)
