Probability of pharmacodynamic exposure of antimicrobial regimens commonly prescribed in the city of São Paulo against Streptococcus pneumoniae of the EUREQA project

Abstract

In the context of resistance, the present project will allow us to understand the correlation among empiric treatment commonly used for respiratory infections and susceptibility profile of Streptococcus pneumoniae in the same environment, through a pharmacodynamic simulation model which uses bacterial eradication targets to each treatment prescribed. Then, it will be possible to infere about which regimens are more prone to resistance induction. This project is linked to the EUREQA Project (FAPESP 06/53922-9). EUREQA has its focus in the correlation of antimicrobial use and resistance emergence; however it does not explore the pharmacodynamic relations among antimicrobials and the infectious processes to which they are prescribed. Therefore, hopefully there will be an increment in the understanding of the use-resistance phenomenon through the present project. (AU)
