Effect of vitamin C and tryptophan on performance, behavior and physiological indicators of broiler chickens

Abstract

The objective of this project is to evaluate the effect of vitamin C levels and tryptophan on performance, physiological and behavioral indicators of broilers reared on high density. An experiment will be conducted during the period 1 to 42 days old. The experimental design will be a completely randomized factorial 2 X 5 + 1 (vitamin C levels: 0 and 250 mg / kg diet X tryptophan levels: 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200% + negative control diet without supplementation of vitamin C + 100% of the recommendation of tryptophan, associated to low stocking density) with eleven treatments and six replications. Diets will be formulated based on corn and soybean meal, according to the recommendations of Rostagno et al. (2011) in four phases: pre-starter, starter, grower and finisher. The performance variables will be analyzed: weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, viability and productive efficiency. As physiological indicators of stress will be evaluated: serum glucose, heterophil: lymphocyte and fecal glucocorticoids. As health parameters of birds will be evaluated antibody titers against Newcastle disease and evaluation of animal behavior will be conducted using an ethogram. (AU)
