Biochemical profile, muscle fiber type composition, expression of monocarboxylate transporters and auxiliary CD147 protein in skeletal striated muscle and blood cells of mules and asses

Abstract

Despite the technological advancement and agricultural mechanization that occurred in recent years, the population of asses and mules is quite expressive in Brazil. Perhaps this population stability is due to the fact of these animals continue to play a very important role in agriculture, sport and leisure. Skeletal muscle is part of the mechanism used by the animals to develop propulsive force in achieving the movement during traction, cargo transportation and physical exercise. Depending on the intensity and duration of exercise, equestrian sport and degree of conditioning may occur considerable accumulation of lactate and H + in the sarcoplasm and red blood cells. The accumulation of protons, which might be indicated by the concentration of plasma lactate, is reported as the main cause of muscle fatigue and one of the transport mechanisms of lactate in the skeletal muscle uses monocarboxylates transporters (MCT) and the CD147 auxiliary protein. The histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and Western blot techniques allow the determination of different types of skeletal muscle fibers, the oxidative potential and profile and the expression of MCTs in red blood cells. There are no reports of researches of these proteins , MCTs and auxiliary CD147 protein in asses and mules. It will be used approximately 20 asses, 20 mules and 20 mares of the breeds commonly to obtain the hybrids, in order to characterize and determine the existing variations in the structural and biochemical composition of the myofibers of the gluteus medius muscle by means of the cited identifying the possible variations between species, hybrids and sex.
