Effect of social isolation on learning of the fish Cichlasoma paranaense

Abstract

Dr. Victoria Braithwaite (Penn State University, USA) is a researcher with widespread experience on cognition and welfare in fishes. She will visit the UNESP from 29th April to 3rd May 2013. In this period she will advise and participate of data analysis of the Master Thesis study entitled "Effect of social isolation on learning in Cichlasoma paranaense" (FAPESP, 2012/10903-50), in which she acts as co-advisor. She will also present two lectures: One on cognition in fish, in the Postgraduate Program of Animal Biology (IBILCE, UNESP, São José do Rio Preto, SP), and another one about welfare and cognition in fish applied to aquaculture, in the Postgraduate program of Aquaculture (Center of Aquaculture, UNESP, Jaboticabal, SP). In addition, there will be a meeting with other researchers from UNESP (Botucatu, SP) to discuss current collaborations and plan additional researches. Lectures: 1) Long terms effects on cognition and behavior in response to stress during development; 2) How can we provide good welfare for the fish we rear? (AU)
