Urban projects: heritage and sustentability

Abstract

The proposed research is the issue of sustainability of urban regeneration projects of urban heritage in cities and is part of the "Research Project: Contemporary Metropolis, Urban Projects, Equity and Inclusion" with fostering Mackpesquisa being developed with teacher Dr. Silvio Mendes Zancheti visitor. The research aims to evaluate the use of the strategy of urban projects in forming a long-term sustainability of urban heritage of cities. The urban regeneration projects will be analyzed according to three components of sustainability: the physical-material heritage (conservation), economic and social sustainability and overall. This theme is embedded in a context of changing paradigms of conservation interventions that happen in urban Latin America, particularly in Brazil. We can see the change from an urban planning strategy focused on planning regulations to another based on the development of urban projects, spatially and temporally defined. The research will be conducted on a number of urban regeneration projects in areas equity deployed in Latin America since the mid-1990s. The universe includes primary research projects conducted in urban property in the following cities (countries): Oaxaca (Mexico), Quito (Ecuador), Bogota and Cartagena of Indias (Colombia), and Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Luís (Brazil). This set will be chosen as a subset who have treated intervention strategies that affect the performance of the three types of sustainability. Three is the maximum number of cases to be analyzed and compared with the European experience of urban projects, also under development in the research project in progress. The results of the cases will be transformed into elements of replicability in urban projects in São Paulo, primarily in PU Mooca Vila Carioca, currently under development by the city of São Paulo and still lacks a management model that includes sustainability and regeneration of the heritage of the metropolis paulistana.
