Abstract

This Project - based on an interdisciplinary approach (Discursive/Cultural Studies and Spanish American Literary Studies) - aims at studying poetic expressions of migration in (to, within and from) the Spanish American Southern Cone. The period considered will be the second half of the XXth Century and up to 2012 in the XXIst Century. The main goals are: 1) to deepen the theoretical understanding of the notion of Poetics of Migration (Perloff, 2010, Molloy, 2006; Cattarulla & Magnani, 2004); 2) to select and analyze poems from a considerably huge corpus, regarding the focused theme and related notions, such as: interculturality, identity, exile, development-induced displacement, racism, xenophobia, nation / nationalism, territoriality, belongingness and multiculturalism (García Canclini, 2006; Anderson, 1983; Van Dijk, 2004; Baeninger and Hook, 2011, Antelo, 2012, among others), in order to establish specific contributions and questioning brought into scene by poetic discourse; 3) to analyze elements of cultural translation, considering existent poems translations; 4) to discuss critical contributions on poetic schools or movements related to the selected and analyzed poems. The corpus will be a) bilingual (Spanish / English or French or Italian or Portuguese) anthologies and b) monolingual Latin American poetry anthologies (edited or re-edited during the last three decades) and c) individual works by Southern-Cone Spanish American poets. The analysis will follow the bakhtinian distinction for every discursive genre: thematic content; compositional structure and style, as well as the distinction intradiscourse/interdiscourse (Foucault, 1986; Pêcheux, 1990/2009) to approach specific metaphoric, metonymic, imagery and sound constructions (Tinianov, [1924] 2010; Eagleton, 2008; Porrúa, 2011; Walters, 2002; Brogan. & Preminger, 1993; Molino e Tamine, 1982) in different esthetic poetical movements (antipoetry, social poetry, neomanierism, objetivism, neobarroque, etc.) in the period (Monteleone, 2004; Panesi, 2010; Porrúa, 2011). Besides the production of theoretical works, another result will be the production of a thematic poetry anthology of Spanish American Southern Cone Poetry. It is also expected that the results will contribute to teacher formation, as well as to language-culture and literature teaching in the area of Spanish American Studies. (AU)
