History of electric energy in the State of São Paulo (1890-1960): industrial heritage, landscape and environment

Abstract

This Project (Electromemory 2) intends to complement the mapping of documents pertaining to the electric energy sector in the State of São Paulo, to be structured in a data basis available for public consultation, as a continuation of Project Electromemory 1 (FAPESP Process 2007/53866-4), which surveyed the remaining archives for the period after the State intervened in the sector (1950's onwards). Now other electric companies, such as CPFL, EMAE will be included, as well as a number of small concessionaries whose generating units were implanted from 1890 until 1960, and which played a fundamental role - to feed the accelerating industrialization of the State. To be developed in four years, this Project will be interdisciplinary, with experienced researchers in the fields of History and Information Sciences, besides being innovative by integrating scholars from two new areas, Industrial Heritage and Landscape/Environment. During its execution, field research will be carried out at the generating units in both private and public archives, to diagnose the industrial heritage and the remaining material culture and museological potential, indicating their state of organization and conservation. The structure of the field research will be based on the thesaurus elaborated for Project Electromemory 1, and complemented by new vocabulary related to the industrial heritage/museology and landscape/environment. Field work will be accompanied by historiographic analysis of each site, considering the electric sector memory preservation pathway, against the background of its history. As intermediate products there will be colloquia and publications on the theme and respective results. (AU)
