Mineralogical characterization, chemical and ceramic of formation Corumbataí in the municipalities Tambaú, Porto Ferreira and Santa ROSA of Viterbo, São Paulo, seeking application and product diversification in the pole ceramic Santa Gertrudes

Abstract

The mining activity in the region of the Santa Gertrudes Ceramic Pole PCSG has grown in recent years and, proportionally, the demand for raw materials has become increasingly larger. Although the clay's volumetric potential is large, reserves has become smaller due to factors such as: inadequate planning and mineral exploitation of existing reserves increase in areas with environmental restrictions, growth of cities and competition with other forms of land use. To ensure the growth and sustainability of commercial and mineral in Santa Gertrudes Ceramic Pole it will be necessary to find new reserves and diversify the range of manufactured products. This is a task that requires deepening of scientific and technological knowledge related to the raw material and ceramic processes involved. In this sense, the expected results of the project aim to know the raw materials in the cities of Tambaú, Porto Ferreira and Santa Rosa do Viterbo in geological, chemical, mineralogical and ceramic points of view in order to expand existing reserves of Formation Corumbataí as source of raw materials, improve the quality of the mass and seek diversification of products produced at the Santa Gertrudes Ceramic Pole.
