Update of information technology infrastructure, the reform of INPE’s facilities service information and documentation and acquisition of a videoconference

Abstract

INPE is the main institution responsible for the development of civilian space activities in Brazil. Its mission is to help the Brazilian society enjoy the benefits provided by the continuous development of the space industry, promoting and performing scientific research, technological development, services to society and human resource training in the fields of Space and Atmospheric Science, Earth Environment and Space. With a campus older than 50 years and a large domestic and foreign demand for qualified information and connectivity to meet the demands presented above, INPE needs a place to storage its intellectual (theses, dissertations, technical standards) and technical-scientific (books, CDs, maps, etc.) patrimony. INPE’s Central Library allocates all the bibliographic acquired and generated by INPE over the past 50 years. The main purpose of item 2 of this proposal is to renovate and expand the library building, to encourage the user to keep in touch with the research environment, give him a better customer assistance and, in parallel, to safely store INPE's archive. INPE has presently a significant computer network and computing resources that have been built in recent years to meet the requirements of internal servers and external demand from its partners. This network has, however, several shortcomings and item 3 of this project seeks to cover these gaps. Item 4 of this project is linked to the purchase of videoconferencing equipment seeking redundancy in communication resources with other state and federal government institutions, as well as INPE's international partners.
