Cleaning the library collection of Instituto Biológico

With a collection of 100,000 volumes of journals and 15,000 books, the library of the Instituto Biológico is one of the largest from the research institutes of the Secretariat of Agriculture of the state of São Paulo. In May of 2012 the library started the reorganization of the collection and a new librarian was hired. The purpose of the current General Director of the institution is to transform the library into a center of excellence in the areas of animal and plant health, and their relationship with the environment. In order to have flexibility in reorganizing the collection, it is intended to hire a specialized company to do the cleaning of books and journals in the library in order to cause no damage to the collection. Thus, this request is to use the resources of Institutional Technical Reserve for this purpose. It is intended that the company performs the hygiene without the use of chemicals. It is also expected that the cleaning company also clean the shelves and identify those books or joumals that need restoration works by the observation of mildew, insect infestation or signals of acidification. Having a specialized company for this purpose, the librarian can perform other activities related to his job, in order to improve services to the library users. (AU)
