Abstract

Although the studies of popular music have made progress over the last fifteen years, a are very sporadic ones have been dedicated to Portuguese music in Brazil. Regarding the Portuguese music and its impact in Brazilian culture, publications about this subject are still rare; the publications generally concern concert music created and practiced before the 20th. Century. Nevertheless, the presence of Portuguese (musical) culture is extremely relevant. The Atlantic crossing is more than a metaphor: It provides the identification of important links for the transit of cultural signs and artistic, in which music is included. It is the case of fado: it embraces all Portuguese people, from all regions as a representing trait of "their" nationality, although this musical genre is identified to the region of Lisbon. A previous research project focused on gender in the city of Santos and was repeated in the interviews conducted with the singers and broadcasters proved that. This book aims to investigate how music is composed and and constructs the imaginary about Atlantic crossing Brazil-Portugal-Cape Verde cultural circulation, departing from the fado example. (AU)
