Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the incorporation of triclosan-based antimicrobial monomer in an experimental composite resin, concerning some microbiological (antibacterial and cytotoxicity effect), physical (conversion degree) and mechanical (compressive strength, flexural strength, hardness Knoop and elasticity modulus) properties, and the influence of the restorative experimental composite in cariogenic biofilms and the composite degradation resistance under S. mutans biofilm. Initially, the triclosan-based antimicrobial monomer will be incorporated into the experimental composite resin. Secondly, it will be determined the antimicrobial and cytotoxicity properties of the composite using inhibition halo and cell viability tests. Then, the conversion degree will be determined by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and cross-linking density, and mechanical properties will be evaluated. Afterwards, it will be determined the restorative materials influence on S. mutans biofilm and the effect of the surface biodegradation of these materials. The surface degradation will be determined by roughness, surface hardness (KHN) and morphology analysis by scanning electron microscopy - SEM. The influence of experimental composite in the biofilm will be evaluated by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy-CLSM. In addition, the biofilm formed on composite surfaces will be evaluated using morphology, biovolume and roughness using COMSTAT software. The results will be submitted to appropriate statistical tests, considering a significance level of 5%. (AU)
