Improving the description of injection height and aerosol composition in biomass burning emission in atmospheric chemistry-transport models

Abstract

This proposal denominated "improving the description of injection height and aerosol composition in biomass burning emission in atmospheric chemistry-transport models" are related with "Using satellite data to determine the area of active fire and numerical modeling of the injection of trace gases and aerosols from the fire radiative energy approach" FAPESP project (number 2011/08000-4) and with the fifth theme of "Amazon Forest Biomass Combustion" project, denominated "Obtainment of Parameters for Evaluation of the Numerical Model Developed for Plume Rise by the Center for Weather Forecast and Climate Studies (CPTEC) of the National Space Research Institute (INPE)" (project number 2008/04490-4 in FAPESP). The main objective of this project is the improvement of plume rise mechanism existent in climate, weather and air quality numerical models of CPTEC/INPE. For evaluation and validation of plume rise model an experimental campaign is planned to be carry out in prescribed burning in Alta Floresta (MT). The proposed project will support the scientific development of students in masters and doctoral courses in remote sensing, meteorology and earth system sciences areas, which will be benefiting from the exchange of knowledge and from development of methodologies in cooperation with KCL researchers.
