LOURENÇO FILHO AND PROGRESSIVISM IN BRAZILIAN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

Abstract

The project aims to analyze the production of didactic and pedagogical Lourenco Filho's works regarding mathematics education. To do so, I will point out the following goals: 1) to carry out a a comprehensive repertoire of the author's works, taking into account the different editions of each material from the archives of Melhoramentos Publisher and personal collection of Lourenço Filho; 2) to analyze the didactic material in the context regarding to the Progressive Education perspectives. This research applies theoretical and methodological procedures come from the Cultural History studies. I intend to propose a reflecton concerning the following hypothesis: it might have been a Progressive Mathematics Education Method developed and applied by primary schools, replacing the intuitive discourses on arithmetics teaching in primary education.
