Linking knowledge and experience in gerontology.

Abstract

Justified by the need to integrate knowledge and understanding of the modalities of assistance to the elderly, some already implemented, and the need to expand other modes due to the increasing elderly population and its demands. The shortage of qualified professional in the field of gerontology also marks an emerging need to deal with the aging population, and the projection of a promising job market for those who devote themselves to the science of aging and its many factors. In this sense, the new Undergraduate Course in Gerontology at Federal University of Sao Carlos-UFSCar helps to mitigate this shortage, which objective is the formation of a professional who works in management in gerontology in both healthy and frail elderly. Some actions have been highlighted in the contribution of shares in favor of senior care guided by the legal guidelines of social rights and humanitarian law, and ensures the Elderly, Law n/1.0741/2003, among them, the actions of the City Council of the Elderly- CMI. In particular in the municipality of Sao Carlos that Council has faced difficulties in their organizational management, even taking into consideration the contribution of work done previously by the same, but they are not having continuity, for example, the folder features designed "Services at Population Elderly in Sao Carlos". Thus, this research aims to upgrade this system of registration and registration of organizations serving the elderly in to That Council, identify the general profile of registered organizations, its users and their needs, as well as, coordinate the inclusion of students Undergraduate courses in Gerontology and other courses in the field of professional practice and scientific research contexts. The methodological basis for cross-sectional, descriptive, qualitative and quantitative, and content analysis. Search with results to create a database and systematic registration of organizations serving the elderly, enabling strengthen partnerships between different sectors of management to senior care. Also joint activities of professional practice and knowledge in research in Gerontology at the Council, as well as mechanisms to deepen education in gerontology-based learning exercise in teamwork with scientific and professional ethics. With the analyzed data we seek to characterize the general profile of registered organizations, its users and identify their needs, so they can more than create the new medium and long term senior care spaces, but the principle disseminate, integrate and (re) organize the existing ones.
