Abstract

The main goal of this project is to revisit the history of Portuguese, from the 15th to the 20th century, in Portugal and in the Brazil-Africa axis, through a comparative approach based on the notion of parameter, as it is developed in the minimalist version of Chomsky's Principle and Parameter Theory. To attain our goal, we'll make use of the syntactically annotated texts available in the Tycho Brahe Corpus, which allow the automatic search of syntactic constructions. As part of the project, the annotated database of the Corpus will be enlarged to 1.500.000 words from Portuguese texts, 600.000 words from Brazilian texts, and 150.000 words from African documents. It is also intended to build a syntactic parser for Portuguese. (AU)
