Effect of high-intensity interval training on physiological and performance responses in judo athletes

Abstract

The main goal of this study is to verify the effects of different high-intensity intermittent specific and non specific exercises on physiological and performance responses in aerobic and anaerobic tests, as well as on technical actions during a judo combat. For this 40 judo athletes will be test before and after four weeks of training using identical protocols. Three groups will be submitted to the interval training, complementary to the usual judo training: (1) two sessions per week of lower body cyclergometer high-intensity intermittent training constituted by two blocks of 10 sets of 20s of sprints separated by 10s interval between sets and five minutes between blocks; (2) two sessions per week of upper body cyclergometer high-intensity intermittent training constituted by two blocks of 10 sets of 20s of sprints separated by 10s interval between sets and five minutes between blocks; (3) two sessions per week of specific (uchi-komi, technique entrance) high-intensity intermittent training constituted by two blocks of 10 sets of 20s of high-speed technique application separated by 10s interval between sets and five minutes between blocks. One group will perform only the usual judo training. Groups and moment will be compared through a two-way (group and training phase) or three-way (group, training phase and moment of measurement) analysis of variance with repeated measurements, followed by a Bonferroni post-hoc test.
