Thermodinamics of cement hydration

Abstract

The aim of Barbara Lothenbach (Empa - Dübendorf, Switzerland) visit is the cooperation in research projects, discussion of the results and presentation of GEMS software for thermodynamic modeling of cementitious systems studied by the group. Given their experience, the teacher can effectively contribute in the following topics: * Sustainable Concrete with low level of binder - discussion on the role of packing and dispersant admixtures in performance of cementitious systems, particularly with low binder content, type of admixtures (molecules); interaction admixture-cement; rheological behavior; techniques measure of dispersion; alternative binders; simplified metrics for measuring environmental impact. Emphasis will be placed in the hydration of cementitious systems with high content of limestone filler.* Modeling Thermodynamics of cementitious systems - will be introduced GEMS software dedicated to thermodynamic modeling and its applications in cementitious systems studied. The thermodynamic equilibrium calculations are used to model the cementitious systems studied, with low binder content, the effect of incorporation of mineral additives (limestone filler) and air-entraining and dispersing admixtures the hydration kinetics and hydrated compounds. Also, it will be analyzed the influence of temperature on the formation of ettringite in cementitious systems, composed of hydrated expansive character, which formed after the hydration of cement causes cracking can compromise the performance of cementitious materials. The participation of the teacher will be included in Course on Hydration Thermodynamics and Modeling of Cementitious Systems - Lecture in progress aimed at researchers from Brazil and Argentina and Public Seminar "Advanced Technology of cementitious material" - Lecture on the theme "Modeling Thermodynamics of cementitious systems."
