Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisistemic disease characterized by periods of activity and remission. Central nervous system manifestations (CNS) are frequently observed, but often there is no correlation between clinical and neuroimaging findings. Inflammatory markers, antibodies and proteins can be determined in blood and cerebrospinal fluid and tend to increase in the presence of disease activity and neuronal death. The titers of antibodies and inflammatory markers may vary accordingly to the disease stage, increasing with activity and decreasing in remission. (AU)
