Abstract
The visit of Prof. Zakrzewski to IFSC/USP has two main objectives. First we intend to develop techniques to study the so-called phenomenon of quasi-integrability. Many non-integrable theories present solutions that behave like solitons in integrable theories. The reason for that behavior is the existence of quasi-conserved quantities. Such phenomenon may have applications in many areas of Physics and Mathematics. In addition, we also intend to construct vortices solutions for the extended Skyrme-Faddeev model which is believed to describe some aspects of the strong coupling regime of the SU(2) Yang-Mills theory without matter.
