Thermochronology in tectonometamorphic and metallogenetic modelling

Abstract

The proposal for a visit of Prof. Dr. Antonio Mateus from University of Lisbon, Portugal at Instituto de Geociências of University of São Paulo arise as a product of the pre-existent scientific cooperation between both research groups since several years ago, which were developed mainly through the international scientific cooperation projects supported by CAPES and CNPq in Brazil and FCT from Portugal. Within the time period between 15th March and 15th May, 2011 the visitor will develop the activities as follows: Cooperation in the Thermocronology and Tectonometamorphic Modelling scientific projects, which are in development at USP, where the visitor will work with the geochronology, petrology and specific structural geology tools. The main goal is to help in the characterization of the thermal evolution of the Quadrilatero Ferrífero, Ribeira Fold Belt and Rondonian-San Ignácio Province areas. This research is connected with the FAPESP/INCT Thematic project about Analitical Techniques Applied to Oil and Gas Exploration, research line Thermochronological evolution of oil-prone sedimentary basins and their basement rocks, that include the application of low, medium and high temperatures thermochronometers in minerals of sedimentary basins (apatite, zircon, epidote), and from the basement rocks (garnet, micas, amphiboles etc), will allow to investigate the denudation events, rate of erosion, rate of metamorphic cooling and uplift of sedimentary basins and of the adjacent basement. Specific Activities: *Discussion of pre-existing geochronological, petrological and geological data. *Sample selection from Chiquitania Complex (SW Amazonian Craton) for geochronological, petrological and geochemical studies. *Participation in the analytical work, mainly using HR-MC-LA-ICPMS and/or SHRIMP IIe, using samples from Chiquitania Complex, Ribeira fold Belt and Varisc and pré-Varisc terranes from Portugal, all areas are included in the scientific cooperation projects developed by the two research groups (USP and UL). *Field work in the Itatins Granulitic Massif and others areas from the Ribeira Fold Belt to sampling and observations of the field geological relations. *To cooperate with the scientific manuscript preparation to be published in the international journals. *Participation in training activities and training of human resources. Regarding the human resource training activities the visitor will provide discussions with members of laboratory teams directly involved in the project and graduate and post-doc students. In addition a conferences and/or short-courses were also taught by the visitor in the following themes: Hydrothermal geochemistry, Fluid dynamic and fluid-rock interaction, Rock deformations, Fractal in geosciences and Metallogenesis. These conferences will be open to staff members and students from others institutions, like UNESP and UNICAMP. (AU)
