Energy transfer collisions between two polar molecules: quantum-mechanical treatment of ultracold HD+HD as a probing system: applications in Bose-Einstein Condensate and in quantum computation

Abstract

Recent creation and investigation of a quantum gas of ultracold polarmolecules is of a great scientific interest. The dynamics of ultracoldpolar molecules is of interest to Bose-Einstein condensation and quantuminformation processing. In ordinary atoms the interactions are spatiallyisotropic, very short-range and actually, in practice, can beapproximated by simple contact (delta-function) interaction. For polarmolecules the interaction is anisotropic and of long range. This makesthe study of dynamics of ultracold polar molecules a novel task. We planto study the quantum mechanical collision of two identical deuteratedhydrogen molecules (HD) with permanent dipole moment: HD+HD-> HD+HD. Weshall use coordinate space scattering equations for this purpose andcalculate the cross sections and transfer rates in this system. (AU)
