Abstract

During the research stay in ITA, the visitor intend to analyze the results of lattice QCD simulation of the gluon propagator performed for several physical volumes and lattice spacing. These simulations were already started in the Milipeia supercomputer at the University of Coimbra. The results will be analyzed by QCD modeling with effective models (SU(3) in 2+1 dimensions including the relation with scalar models in several dimensions). The compatibility of simplified QCD models and numerical simulations will be carefully studied. The goal is to evaluate finite volume effects in the propagator in the infrared region. The collaboration with Brazilian Groups, and in particular, with the Nuclear Physics group at ITA will be profitable as The analyzes require techniques imported from the many- and few-body theory. Simultaneously, the visitor will continue the study of an effective relativistic model in collaboration with the ITA group, for the electrons at the carbon nanotube and graphene. This model is formulated as a Relativistic Quantum Field Theory in which the electrons interact with gauge and scalar effective fields. The scalar field generates a mass-gap, interpreted within the nanotube and graphene models as a band-gap. The experience in the analysis of the non-linear QCD dynamics will be valuable for the study of the scalar and gauge field dynamics at the two-dimensional surfaces of the nanotube and graphene nanoribbon. The dynamics will the investigated exploiting the solutions of the classical field equations. The possible connection with observable phenomena in the graphene and carbon nanotube will be investigated. (AU)
