Abstract

In his visit to São Paulo, Dr. Howard Cooke Will attend to the XV Meeting of the Brazilian Society for Cell Biology, where he will give the talk entitled Meiosis: Divorce your DNA. His participation was indicated by myself and was accepted by the meeting organizers. After the meeting, Dr. Cooke will visit our laboratory (Developmental Biology Lab) at UNIFESP. This visit will help us a lot in ongoing projects and in a Project that we intend to develop in collaboration. Thus, during his visit, Dr. Cooke will help in experiments involving the investigation of the participation of the protein GCNA1 in meiosis by using immunoprecipitation assay, subjects in which he has enormous experience. Concerning the collaborative project we intend to develop, that also includes Dr. Ian Adams, also from MRC-HGU, we will discuss what steps are going to be done here at UNIFESP and what are going to be done in MRC-HGU, what equipments will be applied for and how long it will take to develop the project. In addition, I will take Dr. Cooke to visit UNIFESP installations and to talk to other researchers that will take part in this project. Finally, the visitor will give a talk about the panorama of male infertility in Europe and in developing countries such as China and India, and about the experimental models used to study infertility. This theme is directly linked to the project we intend to develop. The talk will be open to other researchers and student from UNIFESP and from other institutions. (AU)
