Interaction of light and matter at nanoscale: in fabrication, numerical simulation and measurements of surface plasmon dynamics

Abstract

We propose to implement a research program in nanoplasmonics at the University of São Paulo, São Carlos. This program will consist of several elements: (1) experimental and theoretical basic research on the interaction of light with subwavelength structured metallic layers, (2) design and fabrication of planar nonlinear optical elements for the purpose of developing all-optical modulators and switches at petahertz (1015Hz) frequencies, (3) application of lumped circuit and transmission analysis to the design of plasmonic functional devices such as oscillators, modulators and filters at the optical (petahertz) domain, (4) Investigate diamond-like carbon materials for plasmonics and photonics devices, (5) Establish capability for nanofabrication development.
