Abstract

The collaboration with Dr. Glenford Mapp started in Cambridge, last year, when Edson Moreira carried out a one year pos-doctoral programme under the hosting of Prof. Jon Crowcroft. The focus of the work was on the specification of a platform which could handle the complexities of the management of handovers in NGN (Next Generation Networks) environments. While Edson work was directed to resolve problems on enriching the exchanges with contextual information and with the definition of ontologies which could improve the process of mapping parameters between providers, Glenford Mapp had been working with the implementation of a testbed where the physical problems could be tested and assessed. This experiment resulted in the definition of a novel architecture, the Y-Comm. By the end of the pos-doctoral programme the results of the collaboration was formalized by a jointly written paper. The platform originated, called SOHand, has been under implementation since February/2007. During the visiting period in Sao Carlos, we plan to have a set of activities to boost the collaboration.
