Abstract

The visit of Prof. Michel Baranger will have the duration of about one month. During this time we intend to finish a paper in population genetics, where we study processes of sympatric speciation by spontaneous symmetry breaking in spatially extended populations. In our model the physical space is considered explicitly, as well as thegenetic space. We assume the the individuals of the population can mate only with others in a given neighborhood of their spatial location, and only within a maximum distance in the genetic space. We show that the translation symmetry, initially imposed on the system, is spontaneously broken in both physical and genetic spaces, givingrise to clusters where speciation might happen. We also intend to make progresses, together with students, in the study of dynamical processes on complex networks, generalizing previous work we have published on the subject. (AU)
