Abstract

The Campinas Metropolitan Region (RMC) is comprised of nineteen counties, has a territorial extension of 3,673 km2 and is one of the most dynamic metropolitan areas in Brazil, concentrating on important socioeconomic activities. The region has a strong process of urbanization in recent decades with an average rate of urbanization above 97% and a population close to three million inhabitants. The spatial configuration of the forms of use and occupation of land in the counties of RMC, resulting in the various stages that are the social relations of production in different localities, as a mark of history combined and uneven development of capitalist relations of appropriation of this metropolitan area, configure diverse expressions in urban and rural landscape in the region. In the case of urban use there is a tendency to expand the urban perimeters officers in each county at odds with the actual urban occupation, revealing a striking manifestation process of the various strategies of agents hegemonic producers of urban space in the conduct of public policies or actions aimed at the private appropriation of geographic space according to their needs for capital reproduction, which occurs at the expense of socio-environmental characteristics of the region. This project has as main objective to analyze the process of production of urban space in RMC through a comparative study using geotechnological support between the forms real use and formal (legal) use of urban land in order to contribute to this with action planning and urban management that are more efficient from the viewpoint of social equity required.
