Characterization of guava trees accesses for resistance to pests and diseases and commercial ability for possible use in organic system

Abstract

Brazil is one of the largest world producers of guava, with prominence for the São Paulo state. The guava is appreciated by its aroma and characteristic flavor, besides the high nutritious value. The objectives of this project are: to evaluate the behavior of guava accesses produced in organic system, with relationship to the resistance to pests and diseases, vegetative development, production and characteristics of the fruits; to verify the population of pests in the area in study. The experiment will be developed at Apta Centro Norte, in Pindorama - SP. Eighty-six guava accesses will be appraised, with 15 years old. Prunings will be accomplished. The monitoring of pests will be accomplished during the whole period of the experiment. After the prunings, will be appraised the phenological stages of the guava trees accesses, for characterization of the same ones. The crop will be accomplished manually on mature green stage. The production will be calculated by the count of the number of fruits by plant and for your weight in kg. In the plants that didn't have the sacked fruits the attack of fruit flies it will be evaluated. For the evaluation of the physical characteristics of the fruits, will be made the following evaluations: mass of the fruit; length and width of the fruit; pulp firmness; skin and pulp color; number of seeds. For the evaluation of the chemistries characteristics of the fruits, the following evaluations will be accomplished: total soluble solids (SST); titratable total acidity (TTA); pH; ratio; and ascorbic acid. It will be made the characterization of the post harvest diseases. The data will be analyzed by variance analysis, according to the model of randomized blocks, and the averages compared by the Tukey test, at 5% of probability. (AU)
