Abstract

The proposed project will be run by a multidisciplinary team in an emerging research center, an area in need of investments in the state of Sao Paulo. In 2011, the banana of the Ribeira Vale was affected by the occurrence of very low temperatures, which heavily damaged the marketing of fruits produced in the winter. Considering that the banana is a fruit very sensitive to chilling injury and that the protection of the bunch is a technology that can contribute to protection of the fruit in the field, this paper aims to: (1) determine the type of material more efficient for the prevention of chilling injury in postharvest, based on physical, chemical and fitossanitary characteristics in fruits; (2) determine whether the protection observed in postharvest occurs when the bunch covering is done in the field; (3) determine the effect of covering material used in the yield of the bunch and on physical, chemical and fitossanitary characteristics in fruits. This will be carried out experiments in postharvest using a climatic chamber, and following in the field to study the protective effect of the bunch in fruit quality and agronomic variables. (AU)
