Abstract

The isothermal amplification of DNA loop-mediated (LAMP) is a technique that can be applied to the development of diagnostic tests for the detection of parasites in biological samples. Although PCR may be applied successfully for this purpose, time and cost for running the assays are still impeditive for large-scale use in routine laboratories. In this project a LAMP assay will be developed for the detection of the bacterium Ehrlichia canis, the agent of canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME), which is one of the major diseases transmitted by ticks to dogs. The test will be based on amplification of the p30 gene and compared to PCR and nested PCR assays based on this gene and 16S ribosomal RNA gene, as described in the literature. (AU)
