Quality of inoculated corn silage

Abstract

The objectives are to evaluate the effect of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and fibrolytic enzymes associated or not, in corn silage on the microbiological occurrence, fermentation, chemical composition, aerobic stability, intake, digestibility, ruminal fermentation and animal performance. Thus, will be done two corn silages (inoculated or not with Lactobacillus buchneri), evaluating the DM losses occurred during fermentation, organic acid profile, chemical composition, microbiological occurrence after silo opening and during the study under aerobic conditions (5 days). Regarding the effect of L. buchneri on animal performance will be conducted an experiment with 28 Nellore in order to check the DM intake and nutrient digestibility, weight gain and characteristics and quality of meat. At this stage, the treatments are: corn silage inoculated or not with L.buchneri associated with two forage: concentrate ratios (60:40 and 40:60). The trial will be conducted in completely randomized design with seven animals per treatment. In the evaluation of ruminal fluid (pH, SCFA and NH3-N) experiment will be conducted under the Latin square design with 4 Nellore, and 9 days for adaptation and one day for collection of ruminal fluid. To check the survival of LAB in the rumen of animals will be conducted an experiment with crossbred sheep Dorper x Santa Inês. The treatments are: no corn silage inoculant and inoculated with L. buchneri associated with direct inoculation or not L. buchneri in the rumen (105 CFU / mL), constituting a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. The conduct of the experiment is performed under the Latin square design (4x4). Both diets will consist of 60% corn silage and 40% concentrate. In the study of fibrolytic enzymes and their effects on the nutritional value of corn silage will be assessed the production of fibrolytic enzymes, the effect of level on the enzymatic on digestibility and in vitro gas production of corn silage, the stability of the enzyme in the rumen; fermentation, aerobic stability and nutritive value of corn silage additive with different doses of microbial and enzymatic extract; effect of application of the enzyme directly into the trough and in situ. The treatments are: corn silage without enzymes and or inoculant (control), corn silage with 1x105 CFU of L. buchneri / g forage, silage corn with 15, 30 and 45 mL of enzymatic extract, corn silage with 1x105 CFU of L. buchneri/g forage associated with 15, 30 and 45 mL of enzymatic extract. The experimental design is completely randomized with three replications in a split-plot, and plots additives and sub-plots opening times of experimental silos (0, 2, 7, 14, 21 and 60 days). Still, three more experiments will be conduct to evaluate the inoculation of BAL and its effects on the characteristics of corn silage, as well as the performance of animals fed diets based on this silage. The treatments are: corn silage without inoculum, corn silage inoculated with 1x105 CFU of L. buchneri and L. plantarum/g forage, corn silage inoculated with 1x105 CFU of L. plantarum and Bacillus subtilis/g forage. The fermentation characteristics will be evaluated in experimental silos (buckets with a capacity of 3 L) and large-scale silos type surface (30 tons). The silage assessments will be similar to the experiments described above. As for the evaluation of animal performance will be used 30 steers and 30 lambs, 10 animals per treatment. The characteristics studied are intake, digestibility, ruminal fermentation, survival of BAL, carcass characteristics and meat quality. The trials will be conducted in completely randomized design.
