Study of catalytic process of carbon-TiO2 system obtained by sol-gel method excited by ultrasound

Abstract

The main objective of this project is the development of scientific and technological knowledge, which increases the competitiveness of ITA in themes related to materials. The specific objective is to increase the knowledge in relation to photocatalytic effect of titanium dioxide, using new materials based on carbon and TiO2 hybrid materials. The catalytic effect will be studied modifying the electron-hole recombination time and ultrasound excitation at 20 KHz, using several sound powers. The catalytic effect will be analyzed by the kinetic study of methylene blue decomposition. The pore structure will be determined by BET, the chemical bonding between carbon xerogel and titanium dioxide will be studied by Raman and FTIR. The contents of methylene blue will be determined by UV-visible spectroscopy. The homogeneity of the obtained xerogels will be analyzed by electronic microscopy, and the crystallinity will be determined by XRD. This subject shows a direct correlation with others projects (FINEP, CNPq, and FAPESP) under responsibility of ITA´s professors. The performance of the researchers will be carried out based on fundamental approach. However, this research will promote studies based on technological issue related to photocatalyze processes. The target will be reached through the scientific methodology approach. (AU)
